Yang Zi (Yang Ni’ao (杨旎奥), also known as Andy Yang, was born on November 6, 1992, in Beijing’s Fangshan District. Born and raised in Beijing’s Fangshan District, where she was enrolled in Beijing Film Academy, the diva joined the cast in Such Mountain, portraying Zhou Qiong, in order to offer the Chinese viewers a new fresh picture of a sophisticated actress.

Career & Achievements

Yang made her screen debut in the 1999 film Ru Ci Chu Shan, in which she played Zhou Qiong. She had a tiny role in the Xiaozhuang Epic in 2002 as little Consort Donggo. Yang debuted on the big screen in the youth romantic movie Girl’s Diary in 2003, for which she was nominated for a Tongniu Film Award for Best Young Actor.

Yang rose to popularity in 2005 after starring as Xia Xue in the hit Chinese sitcom Home with Kids. When it was first broadcast in China, the drama received the Outstanding Television Series award from the Flying Apsaras Awards and the Golden Eagle Awards. In the sequel Home with Kids 2, Yang resumed her role as Xia Xue, but not in the future episodes.

She is featured in the 2016 urban romantic drama Ode to Joy, which tells the tales of five young ladies from various socioeconomic and educational backgrounds who are united by a similar purpose. Yang garnered considerable notoriety for her depiction of Qiu Yingying, a straightforward girl from a rural village, in the series, which received critical praise and economic success.

Yang was shortlisted for the China TV Golden Eagle Award for Best Actress for her performance. She subsequently played Lu Xueqi, one of the two female characters in the Xianxia book Zhu Xian’s television adaptation.

The drama was a financial success, garnering 23 billion internet views, the most ever for a Chinese drama at the time. As a consequence of her success, Yang was shortlisted for the 22nd Huading Awards in the Best Actress category in an Ancient Drama for her portrayal. The same year, she featured alongside Oho Ou and Zhang Huiwen in Crying Out in Love, a film based on Japanese author Kyoichi Katayama’s romantic book Socrates in Love.

In 2017, she repeated her role as Qiu Yingying in the sequel to Ode to Joy, and she also appeared in Legend of Dragon Pearl, a historical romantic comedy series.

Yang appeared as a talented computer major who is also a prominent internet vocalist in the rom-com drama Go Go Squid! in 2019. The triumph of Go-Go Squid confirmed yang’s popularity. In addition, Yang earned the Most Popular Supporting Actress award at the 16th Guangzhou Student Drama Festival the same year for her role as the wife of a fireman in the catastrophe film The Bravest.

She subsequently went on to play a forensics expert in the crime thriller picture Bodies at Rest and a marketing executive in the romantic ecological drama My Mowgli Boy. In addition, Yang was named Weibo Queen at the Weibo Awards Ceremony and received the iQiyi Goddess Award at the iQiyi All-Star Carnival.
